How to design menus and gadgets

Ashampoo® Gadge It makes it very easy to create individual menus and gadget interfaces without missing out on the extensive range of functions. As shown in the dialog screenshots below there are seven main areas within the editor dialog that give you unlimited possibilities to author great looking menu pages and gadget interfaces for your Ashampoo® Gadge It projects. All areas of the editor are explained below.

1) Object menu

With these five buttons you can easily add new objects (buttons, images, text, background and shapes).                                                                                                                              

 

Adds a new button to your menu. Once you’ve clicked at the button you can either add a small or larger button. After selecting the button you can drag and drop to reposition it by keeping the left mouse button pressed.

 

 

Adds a new image to your menu or gadget. A new explorer appears to browse and to select your files. Please distinguish image from background. A picture will be added as an object and can be placed everywhere, a background is stretched to the whole format. Again after selecting the image you can drag and drop to reposition it by keeping the left mouse button pressed.

 

 

Background adds a new background to your menu. Once you’ve clicked at the button a new explorer appears to browse and select your files. The background will be stretched to the whole format.

 

 

 

New Text adds a text box with a default text to your cover. After a double click the text  is ready to be edited. Click here for more details!

 

 

 

New Shape is a simple but effective way to add forms like rectangles, stars and rectangles to your pictures. Just choose a shape, color and linear blend a pull it to the correct size and position- ready! Click here for more details!

 

 

 

 

2) Toolbar

The toolbar provides easy access to many basic functions from the area of picture editing and also other program options. All toolbar options Ashampoo® Gadge It are described in detail the following chapter.

 

 

3) Design area

Within this area of the editor you can see and design your menu pages and gadgets.  Use the four different resize buttons shown to resize the background window according to your needs. Just click on one of the buttons shown below and drag with left mouse button pressed into the desired direction to adjust the size.

Of course you can also resize your buttons. Just select a button and afterwards use the white resize dots shown in the image below according to your needs. The same method is used to adjust the size of your background. Just select and resize while keeping the left mouse button clicked.

Right clicking on your current menu or button will display the following options:

 

Insert This option is explained very detailed in the following chapter.

 

Acquire enables the import of images and backgrounds. This is also explained in the following chapter.

 

Load Background (only available for right click on the background) loads a new background that will generate a fill the complete size of the menu according to the size of the image. 

 

Clear Background (only available for right click on the background) deletes the current background.

 

Edit replaces or edits the currently selected object or background.

 

Fit placeholder image (only available for right click on the background) resizes the background image to the default menu size.

4) Menu page area

Within this area of the menu designer you can see and have direct access to all different menu pages you have designed. The first menu is the default menu that is always displayed after you have started your project. You have the following options:

Create new Page Creates a new page. See the following chapter for more information.

 

Edit Page lets you define a new name for your menu page. Click here for more info!

 

Delete Page deletes the currently selected menu page.

 

Preview Page previews the currently selected menu in a new window with the name and music you may have defined at the start of your Ashampoo® Gadge It project. Also buttons actually do what they  are defined to do. So the preview is a real time preview of the result of your authoring and editing. 

 

5) Themes and layouts

Ashampoo® Gadge It offers a variety of predefined themes and layouts for your menu pages that you are free to use. Click on a theme or layout and it will be directly be displayed within design area of the editor! 

 

6) Files and computer

The files section becomes visible, after clicking on the “Files” tab. Here all files from your Windows start menu are listed. In the list under the “Computer” tab you can browse all files on your computer. If you like, you can easily directly reference a file or folder to a button by right clicking on the selected file or folder and afterwards choose from the large or small button. Then this button will be automatically be displayed on your currently visible menu.

 

7) Buttons

Similar to the “Files” and “Computer” tab, the “Buttons” list will only become visible by clicking on the tab. Here you will find a selection of buttons in different design for the use in your project. To add a button form the list just double click on it.
